Trending Topics

While not scientific in any way, this is a pretty awesome graph about the life of a trending topic (click to enlarge). With so much of the conversation being meta, I wish there was a way to know how much baseline perception can be affected by a trending topic. For example, after checking out the current trending topics I now know who Adam Lambert is and that Prime Minister’s Questions is going on (and has its own hashtag!). Are those things irrelevant to me? Not really, but I am much more aware of them than I was before.
